Surprise!

Yeah, not really.  It’s almost exactly what I had predicted:  Trump remains on the ballot by a unanimous vote by the Supreme Court.

The only way the Court was going to take this case was if there was a unanimous consensus of the Court.  The justices are more than aware that their legitimacy hangs in the same balance as what the blind lady justice is holding.  The moment the Court loses its perceived legitimacy, is the moment the Court will become irrelevant and ignored.

As far as the decision itself goes, there really was no other viable outcome the Court could have taken.  If they had voted to strip Trump of being on the ballot, the entire MAGA zoo would be up in arms.  The Court’s legitimacy would have taken a huge hit.

The next case — Trump’s immunity claims — will be a unanimous verdict against Trump.

  1. Nope, split 6-3 decision in favor of immunity for “decisions made in office” or again 9-0 in favor.

I will send you a bottle of Michigan wine if you are right.   Keep on keeping on, and thanks for that playlist, we must be close to the same age even though I am a tad more portly at the moment.

Will tip a few for you from the emerald isle, doing St Paddys while visiting distant relatives of wifey unit. Should be interesting to say the least.

    1. If the Court rules in favor of immunity, then there would be nothing stopping Joe Biden from having Donald Trump gunned down in the middle of Fifth Avenue.  Biden would be immune.

The Court will always shy away from any decision that can result in absurdity.

While a POTUS does enjoy a certain level of immunity for official acts of the office, that immunity does not cover activities that are NOT in the official duties of the office.  Campaigning is NOT an official duty of the office of the presidency.  Neither is holding political rallies.

Secondly, a criminal act is by its very nature not a presidential duty.

As I mentioned above, the Court is very cognizant of its image and whether the American public accepts the decisions handed down by the Court.  The moment they lose any of that public support will be the moment the Court fails and people will stop following their decrees.
