Mon. May 20th, 2024

Good Monday Morning.  I arrived at my office perched between two stadiums in Seattle without incident this morning.  It took my customary six minutes and fifteen seconds to arrive from driveway to parking garage, meaning I pretty much flew here.  No random road rage this morning…

It is 41° F and raining.  It will be 51° F at some point today, and yes, it will continue to rain.  (it keeps the hide from crackin’)  The Mariners host the Braves tonight at 1840 hrs, long after I will have gone home.

Let’s get on with the news.

Headlines That Caught My Eye This Morning

Item 1:  Trump Meets DeSantis Seeking to Tap Ex-Rival’s Donor Connections

The question is whether DeSantis is ready to give up his dream of being POTUS or not.  I think he, along with Nikki Haley, are keeping their options open, in hopes that The Don goes to prison or is otherwise bumped out of the race.

Item 2:  Dan Rather makes his return to CBS News, 18 years after bitter departure

The man is NINETY-TWO YEARS OLD!  Is CBS so short in their talent bench that they have almost literally dig up old talent from the graves of their careers?

Item 3:  Kristi Noem’s Vice President odds crash after she admitted killing her dog in a pit while her kids were at school

Every time I hear of this story it sickens me.  This is some psycho shit.  Even more so that she thought it would be smart to actually bring light to the story.  It’s quite obvious her reasoning behind including it in her book:  she was trying to get the attention of Donald Trump, because he famously hates dogs, and this would be something that would warm his cockles…

Item 4:  Evangelical Preacher Goes Berserk On ‘Disgusting’ Trump Bible In Stunning Viral Rant

The REAL news here is the fact that this seems to be the ONLY Evangelical “Christian” who has a problem with someone like Trump selling autographed bibles complete with the US Constitution and the Declaration of Independence in it.  If some twatwaffle had started doing this say, ten years ago, the Evangelical Christians would have been on the warpath.

But something happened to these people.  They lost their way…

Item 5:  US Pushes for Gaza Truce, Hostage Release as Blinken Visits

We’ve long passed the point of punishment for the attacks of Hamas on October 7, 2024.  This is something more.  This is evil.

Israel claims there are roughly four battalions of Hamas fighters hiding in Rafah, among roughly 1.1 million Palestinian civilians.  The common, arm-chair American is quick to assume that these civilians are ‘hiding’ these combatants, when the reality is that they have the guns, and the civilians are just the fodder.  It’s not like the civilians have a voice or a choice in matter.

In my opinion, that makes these arm-chair Americans either intellectually lazy and/or evil-minded themselves.

In no perfect world would it be in any way acceptable to wantonly kill innocent civilians, aid workers and/or journalists.  There is no legitimate justification for it.  NONE.

Item 6:  House Republicans’ Bench Thins—Yet Daredevils Can’t Quit Skydiving

People who constantly shoot themselves in the foot probably shouldn’t be allowed around firearms either.  Which leads us to the next story:

Item 7:  All eyes on Greene threat to oust Speaker Johnson

I wonder how long this twat is going to last once Donald Trump is in our rear view mirror.  She’s an albatross around the necks of all Republicans, and I think they are starting to realize this.

“Starting”.

Item 8:  Russia arrests more journalists on ‘extremism’ charges

I asked this question the other day:

WHY DO THEY CONTINUE TO GO TO RUSSIA?

Item 9:  Urgent warning for anyone using scarily accurate ‘AI death calculator’

I just used it and it said I will live until I am 47.  It seems off a bit…

Item 10  Islamist group slams democratic values, rallies thousands in Germany

I am somewhat amused at how the same people who accuse people who criticize the State of Israel of being ‘anti-Semitic’ are the same people who have no problem talking shit about Muslims and other Arabs — who happen to be Semitic also.

Are there good Semitics and bad Semitics? Can you be against one and not the other and still accuse others of being anti-Semitic?

What In The Hell Did I Just Watch?

Them – Prime Video

Them is an American black horror anthology series, created by Little Marvin and executive produced by Lena Waithe.

Set in 1953, THEM: Covenant follows a black family who move from North Carolina to an all-white neighborhood in Los Angeles during the Second Great Migration. The family’s idyllic home slowly transforms into an epicenter of evil forces, next-door and otherworldly, that threaten to haunt, ravage and destroy them.

I HAVE TO SAY that this show has been out for a while now.  The first season came out in 2021, and for some reason I never noticed it.  The second season just dropped, three years later.  I am halfway through the first season and the HORROR of a black family moving into an all-white neighborhood in the 1950s was scary.  I remember when the first black family moved into our lily-white, upper-middle class country club gated community in Bellevue Washington in the mid-1960s.  The reactions were pretty much what you see here in this series.

But there is also a supernatural element in this series.  Give it a try.
