Sun. May 19th, 2024

It is a Monday afternoon, pushing 1700 hrs and I am just now getting around to posting something here.  I’ve been a bit busy today, voiding a warranty on a brand new geothermal heat pump, and meeting with a crane company to plan for the upcoming replacement of the make-up air unit on the roof of our Broadway property.

Besides, this is my muse, I have actual responsibilities that come first.  You get my sloppy seconds today.

Headlines That Caught My Eye This Morning

It’s not much, but here goes…

Item 1:  US airman dies after setting himself ablaze outside Israeli Embassy in Israel-Hamas war protest

I mean, what are we supposed to say, other than “what a fucking idiot”?

Please don’t give me the bullshit that he did this as a protest.  People don’t just light themselves up in such a painful death just to protest something that has nothing to do with them.  There was obviously something more going on there.  He was punishing himself, for something, otherwise he wouldn’t hve picked possibly one of the most painful ways to make a statement.

And what the fuck is something like that supposed to accomplish?  Is it going to change anything?  Is Bibi suddenly going to get an epiphony and pull back?  Is Hamas going to give up because some US Airman decided to become a human candle in protest?

Item 2:  Justices skeptical of Texas, Floriduh laws that bar platforms from deleting content

This one has always been a no-brainer — for most people who are not governors of Floriduh and Texas.  But  this is some of that authoritarian mindset that has taken over the Republican party in the past twenty years.

This case is no different than being here on this site.   This site belongs to me.  I pay the $30 a month to WordPress.com to entertain you people with my rants and gibberish.  I invite you all in here to participate and contribute — as long as y’all behave.  If you don’t behave, I can  remove a comment or post that you’ve made.  I could decide to ban you, because you have a political or religious stance that I don’t particularly care for.  Maybe I can be arbitrary.  It doesn’t matter, because the point is it is my site and I make the rules here.  I am not required to be fair or just.

The idea that a state can come in and tell me that I have to keep someone’s comment up and life is about as unconstitutional as can be.

Item 3:  Former FBI informant charged with lying about Bidens to remain jailed

This is also a no-brainer.  The case originated out of Southern District of California, but the defenant was arrested in Las Vegas Nevada.  During the required 24-hour detention hearing, the on-duty magistrate let the defendant out of jail on bail, against the protestations of the DOJ prosecutors.  They immediately went before the judge who was assigned to the case, and that judge revoked the magistrate’s order and remanded the defendant back into custody until trial.  Because of him being a flight risk.

Here’s the thing that people should have learned over the past eight years:  You should NEVER, EVER lie to a federal agent.  That’s a 18 U.S.C. § 1001 violation all day long.

They have to show that you willfully lied to them, which is easy because they are trained to ask a question from several different angles and give you a chance to revise a statement before you attest under oath to a federal agent.

Memes From the Meme Box

I receive dozens of memes in my Meme Box on a daily basis from people all over the landscape.  Some are political, some topical, but most are just everyday events with a little fun inserted.  My absolute favorite are just photos that will speak those thousand words clearly.

  1. Contemplate if you will, that the self inmolator was an active member of the U.S. air force.

Then consider that he passed all entry vetting and was found fit and acceptable for service.  I know not what his specialty was, but then I think about all those now working as pilots, co-pilots and mechanics that also were found acceptable.  Maybe there is a tie in to the increasing frequency of aircraft mishaps, seems to me in the last 3 weeks there have been 2 helicoptes lost (along with most crew) and some Osprey craft down (glorified helicopter).

I shudder to think how many are later hired by the commercial air fleets. Of course the FAA just issued a call for hiring more mentally disabled.  Coinkidinks, eh?

No worries, off to Ireland next month. What me worry?
